Police Officer

Starting Salary: $38,783 per year ($33,500 per year Cadets) The City of Georgetown Police Department recruits to establish an eligibility list for the Civil Service position of Police Officer (eligibility list will remain active for up to 1 year). Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and not be forty-five (45) years of age or older at the time of hire, have a valid Texas Driver's License & be a high school graduate or its equivalent. Applicant must be licensed as a peace officer, or the ability to be licensed at time of appointment as established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education. Non-licensed applicants may be considered and sent to an academy. The City of Georgetown offers a step plan with the current annual range for the Police Officer position of $38,783-$57,720. This range is constantly reviewed for competitiveness. The City also offers a comprehensive benefits plan. Upon completion of the Field Training Program, officers can receive incentive pay for college degrees or T.C.L.E.O.S.E. Certificate and bilingual speaking. Officers can take on additional duties, once off probationary status, on the Crisis Intervention Team, Emergency Response Team, K-9 Officer and Field Training Officer. Additional career paths at the Officer level are Detective, IMPACT Team, School Resource Officer, Warrant Officer and Community Resource Officer. In addition, the City of Georgetown offers a take home car for our sworn officers who live up to 2 miles outside the city limits of Georgetown. Communications Operator

Starting Salary: $27,062 to $34,978 (D.O.E.) Deadline: 5:00 p.m. on June 20, 2008 Communications Operators receive, assess, prioritize and classify calls for service on a variety of emergency and non-emergency lines, including E911 telephone lines. This position is also responsible for radio communications with Police & Fire personnel. Other responsibilities include simultaneous operation of multiple computers, radio console, telephone, 911 console, & TDD phone. Applicants must have the ability to handle stressful situations & be available to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. High school graduation or equivalent required. Applicants must pass a typing test (45 WPM), a hearing test, drug screening test, a comprehensive criminal history background check, and possess a valid State of Texas driver's license. NON-COMMISSIONED POSITIONS In order to be considered for a Communications Operator, Records Specialist, Administrative Assistant, etc., you must be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A United States Citizen
  • A clean driving record
  • No Felony convictions
  • No Class A or Class B misdemeanor convictions within the last ten years
