The City of Georgetown Fire Department is an equal opportunity employer. Applications for employment in the are processed in accordance with provisions of the State of Texas Firefighter's Civil Service Act, Chapter 143 and City of Georgetown Firefighter's Civil Service Program. Each applicant must successfully pass an open, competitive and free Civil Service examination with a minimum grade of 70. Applicants and employees are hired and promoted without regard to race, color, gender, religion, age, or disability.


Minimum Requirements

A person may not take an entrance examination for a beginning position in the department unless the person is at least 19 years of age.
A person may not be certified as eligible for a beginning position in a fire department if the person is 36 years of age or older.
Applicant must have successfully completed a structural firefighter training course by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and be eligible to attain basic structural firefighter certification through the Commission; certified EMT-B through Texas Department of Health.
Each fire fighter must be able to read, write and speak English.
Each fire fighter must have graduated from an accredited high school or obtained a GED
Each fire fighter must hold a valid Texas drivers license
Applicant must not have any convictions of DWI within the last five (5) years.
Applicant must not have been convicted or currently charged with a felony offense

Testing Process

General Aptitude Test: Each applicant will be tested on reading comprehension, mathematical ability, ability to read technical charts and knowledge of word definitions. Applicant must score a minimum of 70 on the test to continue in the hiring process.
Physical Ability Test: The physical ability test is comprised of job related tasks. Each applicant must successfully complete all stages of the physical ability test within the prescribed completion time to be eligible to continue in the hiring process.
Applicant Screening Evaluation Process: Applicant will be evaluated on, but not limited to the following; employment history, driving record, credit history, personal references, family references, and current or previous employer contacts.
Oral Interviews: peer and supervisor panel.

NOTE: Applicants who have served in any branch of the military may be eligible to receive five (5) extra points. A copy of the applicant's DD-214 showing an honorable discharge must be submitted with the application. Points will not be awarded if proper documentation is not provided with the application.
