GIS Mapping Service
A GIS, or Geographic Information System, is a digital mapping system that allows users to create and view an unlimited variety of geographic information. The information is created in layers (i.e. streets, property lines, water features) that are linked to databases of information about the geographic features in the layers. Georgetown's GIS is used in all aspects of City operations. The City makes this information available to the public in a variety of ways:
GeoGuide Online Mapping Application
GeoGuide offers the most up-to-date and comprehensive maps of Georgetown on the Internet. It is a powerful online mapping application that allows users to explore a wealth of mapping data ranging from property lines to aerial photos. With an easy to use graphical interface and no special software requirements, anyone can use GeoGuide! Please give it a try! (GeoGuide is supported by these web browsers: Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Firefox.)
Interested persons may also want to download the instructional booklet for GeoGuide at the link below. This guide offers a quick introduction to GeoGuide as well as short tutorials on commonly performed tasks. The booklet is in Adobe .PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat to open.
Please note that the system may become unavailable on Thursdays between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to allow for scheduled maintenance.
Downloadable Maps
Use the freely downloadable Adobe Acrobat viewer to view and/or download images of hardcopy maps published by the City of Georgetown. You can download the maps and print them out on your own printer or plotter. click here for a list of .pdf maps
GIS Data Files
These are GIS data sets for use by professionals or students who have access to GIS software such as ArcGIS or Autodesk Map. Many of the City's core data sets are available. The data sets are provided in ESRI Shapefile format and have been compressed using the WinZip utility. click here for a list of downloadable GIS data sets
Purchasable Maps
The following maps are currently available in 32" x 42" hard copy. The cost is $40.00.

2006 Aerial Photos
In February of 2007, the City of Georgetown completed a significant aerial photography and topography data purchase. The purchase includes 236 tiles of high resolution ortho-imagery, and 236 tiles of corresponding topography data. The aerial photography was captured in March of 2006, at a resolution of six inches/pixel. It is saved in the Mr. SID file format. The topography data is displayed as two foot contour lines that were derived from raw LIDAR data. At this time, interested parties may purchase all of the data in the set for $275. Included with the two DVD set are: Aerial photography, Contour Data in two file formats (.dwg and .shp), Assorted, free, GIS and Photo viewing software.
