Powder

Powder is a Great Pyrenees who came to the Shelter malnourished and afraid. Terrified of thunder, he panicked everytime he heard the distant rumble of storms and often broke out of the fence around his back yard trying to find somewhere he could go to hide.

But worse than that was his weight. The average weight of a Great Pyrenees is about 100 to 120 pounds, and Powder came to the Shelter at barely 60 pounds. When he'd been fed, it was with poor quality food and in amounts too small to keep him alive. When he was left to stand on his own, his back legs began to fail and he would sink to the ground.

Without the generous donations given to the Animal Shelter by the people of our community, the Shelter would not have been able to afford the high nutrition food that he required so that his health wouldn't deteriorate further.

In addition to that, he needed a great deal of personal attention to help him re-adjust to human kindness -- something he hadn't seen very much of. Shelter Volunteers donated considerable time, effort and expense to bring him back to health and happiness.

Marie Shelton, owner of Donnybrook's Wagg'n End, who often volunteers her time to help the Animal Shelter, volunteered to help clean and restore his coat. When Powder went to Marie's, his coat was gray and terribly matted from the neglect he had suffered. During the hours it took to clean his coat, Marie fell in love with him, and he with her.

Marie adopted Powder and today he often accompanies Marie to her grooming shop. The Georgetown Animal Shelter wishes to thank everyone out there for their donations of time and money that helped us save Powder's life and find him a new home.
